We will discuss all things about our U.S. Constitution and it's amendments. A Democracy must have a Constitution for it to survive. The Constitution is the basis of governing for the people of this nation and any other nation that has or desires a Democratic government. We discuss our Constitution and the impact it has on us as a people and the people of other nations.
We will learn together so that we can teach our children and they may teach their children.

AN EGYPTIAN CONSTITUTION:
ReplyDeleteThe new founding fathers of Egypt should carefully structure a new constitution. A scholar on CNN noted that a stable democracy survives 100 years of challenges. The constitution must protect the democracy from abuses of power from autocracy and theocracy as well as outside influences. A democracy protects the rights of all while the previously mentioned disciplines are generally supported by emotions that require curtailing individual rights. Thus the basis for the democracy must be a strong constitution that makes it difficult for a simple majority to easily infringe on the individual rights of its citizens.
What parts of the U.S. Constitution would make sense for the people of Egypt to adopt? Understanding the cultural and historic differences of the countries are their articles of our Constitution that are contrary to Egyptian culture and religion?
ReplyDeleteAmerican's seem to believe that "Constitution" means democracy. The reality is that a constitution can provide the legality of a life time dictator as well as a publicly elected President.Constitution is what the people who write it want it to be. If a military government prepares the document, it will undoubtedly be geared toward a strong military with fairly weak civilian authority. Let's face the reality of the day, the American Constitution was structured by men with incredible presence of justice and individual freedom. People with power have a great deal of difficulty giving it up . . . not the American founding fathers. George Washington set the stage for two terms, which was not part of the Constitution until well into the 20th century. What can we really expect from "Constitutions" in the middle east?
